Wamego star running back Isiah Childs his decision. After taking a visit to Akron, the first Division I university to offer Childs, the senior announced on Twitter that he’d be joining the Zips.
“First off, I would like to thank the man upstairs for blessing me with this opportunity, because without him I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. I want to thank all the schools who gave me the opportunity to play at the next level,” Chillds wrote. “Big special thanks to the city of Manhattan and Wamego for showing love throughout this process, and thank you to my family and loved ones for guiding me along the way.”
Kansas State, his hometown school, also offered Childs. However, the Wildcats were recruiting him to play linebacker. At Akron, Childs will play running back.
Childs played at Manhattan High before transferring to Wamego for his senior season.
Childs missed a large amount of the Indians’ season last fall after suffering a collarbone injury. He had 23 carries for 145 yards and four touchdowns before getting hurt. He also caught five passes for 40 yards and another score. He returned in the team’s semifinal game against Derby after missing seven weeks.
