Wamego’s head baseball coaching search is officially underway.
Wamego High School is looking for a new head baseball coach to replace the recently retired Jerry Johnson.
On July 15, it was announced Johnson was retiring as the baseball coach after 23 years. Johnson, a Wamego Middle School teacher, started the Red Raiders’ baseball program.
Wamego athletics director Dennis Charbonneau told the Mercury that the school is looking for someone who is “knowledgeable” about baseball, “has a passion for the sport” and is good at developing young student-athletes.
Charbonneau said the school district is now accepting applications. He said the timetable for making a hire has not been determined.
