Manhattan freshman Easton Taylor wins by decision over Bonner Springs Derek Doffett in the 106-pound weight class during the match at Manhattan High School on Dec. 6. Taylor captured third place at the Class 6A state tournament on Saturday.

Manhattan High’s wrestling team took a young group to the Gardner-Edgerton tournament on Saturday. The tournament featured top-tier competition, including nationally ranked teams from around the state as well as from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

Manhattan’s Easton Taylor won a championship in the 120-pound weight class after knocking off Damian Mendez, the returning Kansas Class 6A state champ, 1-0.

Tate Sauder also placed for the Indians, finishing in sixth place.

The Indians travel to Bonner Springs for their next match at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
