In a sign of Twin Valley League solidarity, proceeds from Thursday’s middle school football game between Hanover and Clifton-Clyde in Clifton will be given to the Dettmer family, which was involved in a tragic car accident Sept. 30.

There will be no admission fee to enter the game, but the school is collecting donations.

Any donation given will go directly to the Dettmer family.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kevin L. Dettmer of Randolph, his wife, Kyra, and three children were traveling through Clay County.

Driving east on 30th Road in a 2006 Dodge Durango at 9:15 p.m., Kevin swerved to avoid a cardboard box. He overcorrected, and the vehicle struck a bridge pillar and came to rest on the south shoulder under the bridge.

Dettmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife and children all suffered serious injuries. Responders transported Kyra and the 11-year-old child to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. The 8-year-old and 5-year-old children went to the Clay County Hospital.

Blue Valley-Randolph, Clifton-Clyde and Hanover are members of the Twin Valley League for sports.
