The Manhattan High girls varsity volleyball team had an eventful weekend in a tournament at Olathe South.

Though the Indians went 2-3, they still impressed first-year head coach Krista Schmitz.

The Indians defeated Lawrence High 25-13, 25-15, and Shawnee Mission South 16-25, 25-15, 25-15. The losses came at the hands of Olathe South (18-25, 17-25), Blue Valley Northwest (29-27, 21-25, 19-25) and Blue Valley North (20-25, 23-25).

“After five matches I can honestly say these girls improved from beginning to end, which is important at this time in the season,” Schmitz said. “We played some good volleyball, played with energy, and most importantly played as a team. Between Tuesday and Saturday, we worked on a few of the things we struggled with against Shawnee Heights. We executed it all very well on Saturday.”
