Immediately after falling in an away dual to Junction City Thursday, Manhattan High’s wrestling team hit the road again, taking part in the 57th annual Newton Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday in Newton.

MHS had 13 wrestlers travel. The Indians’ top finishers were Easton Taylor (120 pounds) and Damian Ilalio (285), who both took third. Tate Sauder finished in fifth in the 126-pound division. A pair of sophomores — Tucker Brunner (132 pounds) and Blaisen Bammes (138) — both came home with eighth-place showings.

Two Indians came up one match short of placing: The twin-brother duo of Darius and Daron Island-Jones.

Manhattan returns to action this weekend, traveling to Tulsa, Okla., to participate in the Owasso Rams dual tournament. The event will be held Friday and Saturday.
