Manhattan girls' tennis' freshman sensation Jillian Harkin has a shot at a state championship on Saturday.
Harkin won both her matches Friday afternoon at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, advancing to the semifinals. Harkin topped Sophie Lecuru of Mill Valley and Sophia Baillos of Blue Valley North to move on.
The freshman plays Alisa Prinyarux of Blue Valley Northwest in the semifinals. Harkin has a chance to finish anywhere from fourth-place to a state title.
Junior Kayla Lei lost her first match on Friday, but bounced back in the consolation bracket to have a chance to finish between fifth and 12th.
The No. 2 doubles team of senior Kate McGee and freshman Maura Wiens won two matches to start the day before losing to Blue Valley.
Seniors Kira Schartz and Joanna Parks concluded their solid tennis careers at Manhattan High as a doubles tandem after going 1-2 on Friday.
The first matches Saturday begin at 9 a.m. at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka.
