Trey Holston, Bull riding winner Kaw Valley Rodeo 2019

Trey Holston rides a bull Friday evening at the Kaw Valley Rodeo. Holston was one of only two riders to post a score over the three days of the rodeo, with his 84 topping Cole Fischer’s 76.

This year’s Kaw Valley Rodeo bull-riding title is staying in the state of Kansas

Fort Scott native Trey Holston edged Cole Fischer with a score of 84 over Fischer’s 76. Fischer and Holston were the only two to riders to last long enough to be scored. Holston will be walking away with a total of $2,452.02.

Kansas State grad Jarek VanPetten had a solid performance in the steer wrestling competition. He was able topple a steer in 4.8 seconds. His time was enough to set him atop the Saturday leaderboard and helped him finish in a second-place tie under champion Denver Berry.

Oklahoma native Skyla Whitters dominated the barrel-racing competition. She finished with a time of 17.55 seconds. The next closest to her was Leslie Smalygo, who recorded a time of 17.69.

Saddle bronc riding was among the most competitive events. In the end, Curtis Garton finished on top with an impressive score of 80.5.

His score was just enough to finish in front of Treyson Antonick.
