We were most appreciative of, and in great agreement with, the editorial applauding Dave Colburn’s efforts as a member of the Manhattan–Ogden Schools USD 383 Board of Education ("We'll miss Colburn's even-keel approach to school board"—June 6).
Our personal and professional relationship with Dave includes over 35 years of his exceptional dedication as the manager of The Pathfinder in Manhattan. Our successful ownership of The Pathfinder was due, in large part, to his loyalty and commitment to the image and responsibility we envisioned for our relationship with the Manhattan community.
As our customers knew, over those many years, Dave was the local face of The Pathfinder and his personal credibility was a key component of the loyalty of our customers and staff.
We not only second the editorial comments, but add that we also witnessed those attributes in the consistent role of leadership he provided The Pathfinder for longer than most retail establishments survive: again a tribute in large measure to his personal values.
In addition to his professional career and his Board of Education work, we feel it is important to point out Dave has been exceptionally generous with his time and talent in participating in numerous community organizations with significant impact on the quality of life in Manhattan. He has, over literally decades of effort, been a dedicated and positive factor in the Manhattan community.
