Priscilla Marie Wattenford (Kunkel), 77, of Manhattan passed away peacefully on June 4, 2019 after a valiant 17 year battle with Parkinson’s.
Priscilla was born August 12, 1941 to Bennie and Marian Haugen. She was raised on the family farm in Souris, North Dakota. Where she was the oldest of six children.
In 1959 she met James (“Jim”) Kunkel and they were married 5 years later.
Priscilla earned her nursing degree from Trinity School of Nursing in Minot N.D. She and Jim moved to Missoula, Montana where she started her nursing career while Jim finished his forestry degree. They later returned to Bottineau and had two children, Peter and Mary.
In 1978 they relocated to Manhattan Kansas where Priscilla continued her dedication and love of family and nursing. For the next 25 years, Priscilla raised two children and specialized as a neonatal nurse. She provided much love and care to many sick babies and mentored many young women into great nurses.
Jim passed away in 1998. Priscilla remarried Mylo Wattenford on Dec. 30, 2007. They continued to live in Manhattan and became members of First Presbyterian Church.
Priscilla loved to entertain friends and family. She had a passion for cooking great food and sharing new recipes. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and always had a craft planned do to with her grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death her husband James Kunkel, brothers, Blaine Haugen, Russell Haugen, and sister, Susan Sletto.
She is survived by her husband Mylo Wattenford, son, Peter Kunkel (wife Lisa of Coppell, Tx), and daughter, Mary Kaufman (husband Rex of Newton, Ks). Grandchildren: James Kunkel, Patrick Kunkel, Kathleen Kunkel, Clayton Kaufman, Lucas Kaufman, and sisters, Dorothy Klitzke and Cynthia Resner
The family would like to thank the staff of Meadowlark Scenic House and Home Care and Hospice Inc. for the amazing and wonderful care that they provided Priscilla over the past year.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday June 9, 2019 at the Frist Presbyterian Church – Fischer Hall, 801 Leavenworth in Manhattan.
The Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday June 10, 2019 at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 10, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations and memorials to be made to the Parkinson’s Program at Meadowlark Hills, Priscilla was a member of this group and benefited greatly from their therapies.
