Nancy Flo Thompson, age 84, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Nancy was born March 18, 1935 in Big Springs, Nebraska to Alice and Alfred Adams Sr. She was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated in 1951 at the age of 16. Nancy is a 1954 graduate of the University of Kansas earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education as well as a Master of Education degree conferred in 1959. She was a dedicated educator and leader for over 40 years. She worked as a teacher and school psychologist for the Miltonvale, Perry, and Parsons Kansas school systems before moving with her family to Manhattan in 1967. There, Nancy worked for the USD 383 School District as a school psychologist, director of elementary education, principal, and director of curriculum. She was a trailblazer, always seeking innovative ideas that would encourage positive outcomes for students, parents, and teachers. She retired after 32 years of service in 1999.
Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Dixie Jean Adams, her mother and father Alice and Alfred Adams Sr. and her brother Alfred “Sonny” Adams Jr. She is survived by her sister, Ernestine “Teen” Adams, brother, Alvin “Buddy” Adams and her four children: Alice (Ron) Blackwell, Eric (Theresa) Thompson, Alan (Michele) Thompson, and Eve (Guy) Ane. She is also survived by 7 beautiful grandchildren: Matt (Shanna) and Sarah Blackwell, Iris and Lily Thompson, Dylan and Connor Thompson, and Margot Ane.
For the past 20 years since her retirement, Nancy has enjoyed many family road trips, and spending time teaching and watching her grandchildren grow with their various activities such as horseback riding, soccer, baseball, and ice skating. There will be a family gathering in Indiana to celebrate Nancy’s life. In lieu of flowers or contributions, Nancy would have liked you to call a loved one, read a book, or work a crossword puzzle.
