Riley County commissioners on Thursday approved an interim director for the Riley County Historical Museum.

The commission appointed Allana Parker as interim director on the recommendation of Elizabeth Ward, human resource manager, and Phil Anderson, board member of the Board of Trustees of the Riley County Historical Society.

Parker, who served as the curator of design, has been leading museum staff since longtime director Cheryl Collins died last month.

The county set her salary at $70,225.12. Collins’ salary had been budgeted at $113,301.76.

She has worked with Collins for the last nine years. Ward and the board said she meets the qualifications for the position.

The commission also approved Corey Meyer as the IT/GIS interim director. He is replacing Kevin Howser whose resignation went into effect Friday. Meyer, network administrator for the county, has worked with Howser and his predecessor for 13 years. Ward also said he meets the qualifications for the position.

The county set his salary at $101,084.57. Howser’s salary had been budgeted at $120,693.56.

In other business, commissioners unanimously approved:

  • An auditor contract with James Gordon and Associates. The $253,835 contract will last through 2025.
  • Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs’ request to hire for a grant-funded registered nurse position for the department.
