A Riley County Police Department report identified a man found dead in south Manhattan shortly before the new year.
Officers responded to a report of an unattended death at about 11 a.m. Dec. 28 in the 1900 block of Priboth Road.
They found Robert Smith, 75, dead at the scene. The report indicates Smith died by suicide with a gun.
According to Smith’s obituary, he graduated from Manhattan High School and worked at Kansas Power & Light, Allingham Volkswagen, Umscheid Construction and Manhattan Trenching during his career.
He is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
