The Kansas Department of Agriculture has added a Manhattan woman as assistant secretary of agriculture.

Kelsey Olson, who had worked at agrochemical company Syngenta in Junction City since 2010, started her new job Monday.

As assistant secretary, Olson will serve as a liaison between the department and stakeholders in the industry, participate in regulatory and legislative policy decisions, and coordinate special projects and initiatives.

At Syngenta, Olson specialized in portfolio management, trend analysis, and investing and sales within the agriculture industry.

Olson also worked as a district agricultural representative for U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran’s Office.

Olson, a Norton native, earned her bachelor’s degree in international agribusiness and master’s degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University.

She lives with her husband, Casey, and their two children.
