Some of Kansas’ congressional leaders are praising President Donald Trump and his efforts after an airstrike by the U.S. killed Iran General Qassem Soleimani.

U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall said Trump was “completely and totally justified” in enacting the air strike that killed Soleimani in Baghdad.

“This president is a decisive leader who puts America’s interests and her people first, not last,” Marshall said in a statement Friday. “Instead of billions in cash payments, this administration will not bend the knee to thugs.”

Sen. Jerry Moran referred to Soleimani as “the perpetrator of death” in a Friday interview with CNBC.

“Everything I know suggests the truth of attacks that were imminent against our soldiers, our military men and women,” Moran said during the interview. “And we saw exactly what was happening at the embassy. So I certainly support this effort to reduce the opportunities, the desire on the part of Iran to make those attempts at killing American men and women in our military.”

Multiple news outlets reported Friday that Iran is planning its own attack against the United States in response to the killing of Soleimani.

“My hope is that we’ve done everything we can before this attack to protect our servicemen and women, and to protect our embassy and state department personnel not only in Iraq, in the middle east, but around the globe,” Moran said.
