A Junction City teenager died Friday after a crash in Dickinson County.

Javier Jose Fuentes, 18, Junction City, was driving his 2011 Honda Accord at 12:27 p.m. south on U.S. 56, 3.3 miles south of Herington, when his car drifted for an unknown reason, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol said Fuentes’s car drifted to the left, crossed the centerline and headed toward the east ditch. Fuentes swerved back towards the roadway, and his car collided almost head on with a northbound 2021 Kenworth Semi.

Fuentes died at the scene. The driver of the semi truck, Jason Cooper, 48, Gradin, Mo., didn’t have any reported injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
