Children in the Manhattan area will have access to free summer lunches throughout the summer.

Anyone between the ages of one and 18 can eat at several locations around the district for free on weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. from June 3 to July 29.

Families can send their children for free meals at Bluemont Elementary, Lee Elementary, Ogden St. Patrick Church, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Manhattan East Campus.

The program is funded through a federal grant obtained by the child nutrition department in the district. Elementary school libraries will also be open around lunch time for kids to sit and read.

Kids in Riley will also have the opportunity for some free meals this summer.

The Kid Community Picnic will be from noon to 1 p.m. each Thursday in June and July in Riley City Park. Lunch is provided by Riley PRIDE and the Community Food Basket.
