American Legion Post 45 in Junction City is asking the public to attend a funeral next week for Sgt. David Loften, a Vietnam veteran who died earlier this month with no apparent surviving family.
Loften, a retired veteran who served between 1969 and 1989, died Jan. 6 at his home. Johnson Cremation and Funeral Service, which volunteered its services, has been unable to find any surviving family for the veteran’s Tuesday service.
“We ask all veterans and the public if at all possible to attend his memorial to say goodbye and honor our brother in arms,” the post said in a statement. “We are the only family he has left.”
The memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
