Just a day after landing its first transfer of the season, Kansas State coaches landed a second in Virginia defensive back Joshua Hayes.

Hayes, a two-star recruit out of Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Fla., originally transferred to Virginia prior to this season after playing his freshman and sophomore campaigns at North Dakota State under current-K-State head coach Chris Klieman.

In Hayes’ 52 career games at North Dakota State, he recorded 132 career tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 21 passes defended and two career interceptions.

Hayes ran into injury trouble when he got to Charlottesville and played in just three games before re-entering the transfer portal in October.

K-State loses Jahron McPherson, Russ Yeast and Reggie Stubblefield to graduation, so the addition of Hayes should bolster the defensive back depth heading into 2022.
