A pair of sophomores picked up wins for Kansas State on the final day of the SMU Invitational on Sunday.

Rosanna Maffei and Ioana Gheorghita recorded victories in singles play to wrap up the Wildcats’ second fall tournament of the season.

In the first victory of the day, Maffei took on Big 12 rival Carmen Roxana Manu of Kansas to kick off Day 3 at the SMU Tennis Complex. Maffei dominated, dropping just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Gheorghita, who dropped her first set in a matchup with SMU’s Claudia Bartolome, rallied back to claim another victory for K-State, winning 0-6, 7-5, 10-5.

It marks the second consecutive tournament Gheorghita has notched two or more victories. Last week, she notched three victories on her way to a third-place finish at the Marliss Gruver Invitational in Auburn, Alabama.

Maffei and Gheorghita combined for three singles wins and a doubles’ victory during the weekend at the SMU Invitational.

The Wildcats will next head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the ITA All-American Championships, which start Saturday.
