Klieman @ Kansas State Football Signing Day Dec. 19th

Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman meets with reporters at the program’s signing day press conference on Dec. 19, 2019. Klieman wrapped up his second recruiting class with the Wildcats on Wednesday.

Kansas State football had the vast majority of its 2020 recruiting class already on board in December, when 23 players signed during the early signing period. But the Wildcats weren’t finished.

They added three more players — offensive linemen Sam Shields (of Manhattan High) and Hadley Panzer along with defensive end Tyrone Taleni — on the traditional national signing day Wednesday.

K-State’s 26-member class, the second under head coach Chris Klieman, features 20 high school student-athletes and six community-college transfers. In terms of units, the Wildcats signed 13 defenders, 11 players on offense and two positionless athletes. K-State went heavy on two spots, signing five offensive lineman and defensive backs apiece. There are four defensive ends along with pairs at running back, tight end, defensive tackle and linebacker. The Wildcats’ class boasts one quarterback and one receiver.

A dozen members of the class already are on campus and will participate in the Wildcats’ spring practices, which begin next month.

The players from this year’s class that enrolled this semester include: Shields, offensive lineman Dawson Delforge (a Wamego High alum), defensive back Tee Denson, defensive end Kirmari Gainous, linebacker DeMarquesse Hayes, defensive tackle Robert Hentz II, quarterback Will Howard, tight end Christian Moore, defensive tackle Derick Newton, Shields, defensive back TJ Smith, tight end Will Swanson and offensive lineman Carver Willis.

K-State’s spring practice starts March 18 and ends April 17, with its final session — which will be open to the public — at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
