The sinkhole near Walmart parking lot is seen under construction on Friday, December 27.

Crews work on a sinkhole near the Walmart parking lot on Friday. The sinkhole formed in late summer above a 36-inch “sewer interceptor main” that carries sanitary sewer and wastewater flows for more than a third of Manhattan. The repair is expected to be complete in January, and the cost is estimated at $1 million, officials said.
