K-State professor dies at 92 in Texas

Joseph Barton-Dobenin, a long-time professor at Kansas State University whose Czech roots led to the city’s sister-city relationship with a city in that country, died Dec. 19, in Weslaco, Tex. He was 92.

During a visit to his native land, Mr. Barton-Dobenin identified the city of Dobrichovice as a logical candidate for a sister-city relationship with Manhattan.

In 2006, city commissioners formalized that relationship, eventually leading to exchange visits and to the construction of a display at the southwest corner of City Park heralding that relationship. The
