Why does The Mercury charge for access to content on its website

We believe that the work of our reporters and editors to inform our readers has real value. We believe that it’s reasonable to ask people to pay for that product, just as readers of the daily printed paper have done for more than 100 years. The cost that we’re talking about on a daily basis is less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
