One day out of the year, Hooterville has its annual celebration. This is true of most tiny towns.  On that day, the streets are filled with people, cars are parked everywhere, and there is much goodwill and food and beer. That was yesterday. Today, the streets are empty and the town is back asleep.  The only reminders of yesterday are the empty food containers strewing the streets.
I sometimes wonder why these small towns don’t open up more often than one day a year. Why not beer gardens and events every weekend? My hunch is, because they don’t want them.  Dead is most peaceful.
