That’s why I get riled when people on a community discussion board resort to “internet fisticuffs”. Elected officials… I’m sorry, but your decisions will be cussed and discussed. That’s part of what you bargained for when you ran for office. For a board poster to be upset over things that affect his/her quality of life, or affect their neighbors, or affect their family… vent here. Just don’t resort to the juvenile name-calling.
To me, it’s a good thing if we can debate about issues, problems, ideas, proposed laws, etc. - even heatedly - and express any opinion about them, without resorting to, or having to tolerate personal attacks. Examples of what I call “personal attacks”: name-calling, mocking, ridiculing, demonizing, accusing, threatening, or attempting to censor another person. (And by the way, I do not equate moderation of troll behavior with “censorship”.)
I know some of you like to talk a little smack for fun, or just vent, and there are and should be places for that, but I hope we can also build a place for serious, productive discussion about issues in this community without having to wade through all the muck.
But it’s not my sandbox, I don’t make the rules here, I only know what I personally would like to see. My own decision to stay involved or not will depend on what kind of culture develops here.
