The parade of candidates for City Commissoin continues to expand.  Rumor has it additional candidates will be announced just before the filing deadline.  Some already announced candidates have ties to the University.  Some do not.  If rumors are true, candidates waiting to “surprise” with their candidacy announcements are also closely tied to the University.

The Riley County Election Office set up an early voting polling place at the KSU Student Union for the November election.  In the past, early voting had to be accomplished at the Riley County Courthouse… and ONLY at the Courthouse.  If the Election Office decides to once again allow early voting at the Student Union, this will give a hugely unfair advantage to those candidates connected with the University.  This would result in a tainted election.  In fact, I could see a Student Union early voting arrangement be grounds for litigating the election results, thereby peanlizing ALL voters and citizens, with unnecessary legal fees.  Hopefully, the Election Office will understand the negaitve impact of allowing early voting ANYWHERE execpt at the Riley County Courthouse.

The county’s web site lists only the courthouse as the location for advanced voting for the spring election, although it does say “subject to change.”  I heard there were not enough advanced voters at the Union in the fall to justify using it again as an advanced voting place.
