when you got no man to give it his last name.
And the folks back in Manhattan didn’t want her or her bundle,
so she took her child and caught the evenin’ train.

If you remember and can finish that song, you are a bona fide Manhattanite.  No fair cheating on the internet.  Larry????????

Michael, I’d have to “cheat”!!!  That must be a song from the generation of you younger “flat-bellies”!  It’s not rining a bell with this feeble old mind….

Manhattan is also mentioned in the movie Marlowe starring James Garner, based on the book Little Sister which makes quite a bit out of the main characters being from Manhattan. It erroneously paints Manhattan as a tiny farm town in the 1940s though; Chandler probably wanted a Westmoreland or similar sized town.

I adored Tank as a kid, but I haven’t seen it since I was a teenager in 19mumble-mumble.
