We have an election in April.  Who will be the candidates running for City Commission?  Who will win??  Who will be the School Board candidates?  Who will win?

Good question on the 2013 City Commission elections.  Rich Jankovich is going to run again.  The Mayor has not made a declaration and Jim Sherow announced that he would not be seeking reelection.  John Ball was the first candidate to enter the race.  Here is the bio that John Ball released to the media - http://ourmanhattan.org/images/Biography_John_Ball.pdf Some thoughts on issues for the next commission - Fortitude:  http://ourmanhattan.org/images/Fortitude_-_Issues_for_the_Old_and_New_Candidates.pdf

So, we have one Tea Party candidate who has announced his intent to run for City Commission.  We all assume a far left candidate will announce.  Will we be given the choice between a far right and a far left candidate?  Hopefully, one with some common sense and moderation will announce… and win a seat.  Jankovich has done an excellent job.  I, for one, sincerely appreciate his recusing from any issue that could be a potential conflict.  That shows far more integrity than some commissioners we’ve had seated in the past.  And, I believe Jankovich has held the interests of the citizens as a priority, rather than allegience to Tea Party idealogies.  To elect Ball, a certified Tea Party right wing activist, when we will have one with similar leanings as mayor… it would be a long couple years for any person or group remotely connected to City Government.

IMHO, we must retain some semblence of moderation.  With yourself, Wynn, and John coming from the far right… With Loren leaning right… With Jim leaning hard left… With Rich being a voice of reason… We have had some semblence of balance.  To see Ball joing yourself and John and Loren… Goodbye to Manhattan remaining a dynamic, while caring, community.

Will be interesting to see who else tosses their hat into the foray!!
