    Featuring pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee.

    Cost: $6 adults, $3 children. Proceeds support local children.

  • August 28 6:00 pm Fall lawn & garden class

    Riley County extension agent Gregg Eyestone will offer instruction about seeding and fertilizing to rejuvenate your lawn. This free class is Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. in Pottorf Hall. Information on soil and ornamentals will also be available. For additional information call the Riley County, K-State Research and Extension office at 785-537-6350.

  • October 2 6:00 pm Medicare basics seminar

    Riley County Extension will host a Medicare Basics seminar on Oct. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Pottorf Hall, CiCo Park.  Medicare Basics seminars are designed for those who are approaching their 65th birthday and will soon be eligible for Medicare.  Participants will learn about Parts A, B and D of Medicare, when and how to sign up, and about how to choose the best drug plan and Medicare supplement insurance coverage.  Medicare Plan Finder Workshops will be held on Oct. 14.  These are hands-on workshops designed to help Medicare Beneficiaries learn to navigate the Medicare website.  Two sessions will be held, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at the Manhattan Public Library’s technology classroom.  The workshops are free, but registration is appreciated at http://www.riley.ksu.edu or by calling 785-537-6350.

  • November 9 12:00 pm 28th Annual German Ethnic Dinner and International Crafts Sale

    Meal includes borscht, whole wheat bread, whole hog sausage, new year’s cookies and beverage. Tickets: $10 adults, $4.50 for children under 12. One dollar from every adult ticket will go to Mennonite Central Committee to support the work in Bolivia of Jakob Whitson, a former K-State student. The crafts are from Ten Thousand Villages and are made by artisans in developing countries.

  • February 14 8:00 am Riley County Fish & Game swap meet

    Vendor tables are available for $10 and set-up is at 7:30 a.m. Admission is $1. Fishing tackle, hunting gear, books, videos, clothing, guns, ammo and more will be available for sale or swap. Proceeds will help support a variety of hunting, fishing and shooting activities.

  • March 12 9:00 am Riley County Conservation Workshop

    The meeting will focus on the benefits of planting cover crops for soil health improvements and grazing.  Speakers from Kansas State University, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ward Soil Testing Labs and local farmers and ranchers will discuss cover crop planting, soil testing, cover crop species and developing mixes to plant on farms.  The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Lunch will be provided and it is limited to the first 200 participants.  For reservations contact Aubrey Evans, RCCD District Manager at 785-537-8764 X 3 by March 9.

    Blood donors with the most in-demand blood types — O negative, A negative and B negative — are particularly encouraged to give now to help replenish the blood supply.     Featuring pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. Eggs are extra. Cost: $6 adult, $3 children 12 and under. Net proceeds used to fund local youth charities/groups.
