Purple Power Animal Welfare Society, a local non-profit animal rescue, is hosting ‘Paws for a Cause’, an event for people and their dogs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. This event starts with a 5K walk/jog/run from the Hy-Vee garden center to Manhattan City Park and back. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration is at 9 a.m. The first 30 participants will get a free event t-shirt. Admission for the walk is $10 per person. We encourage people to bring their dogs for the walk/run. The event includes multiple cake walks. Cake walk tickets are available for $1 each. The cake walks start at 11 a.m. The dog costume contest and fashion show will follow at 1 p.m. Registration for the costume contest is $5. Paws for a Cause will have many pet/people friendly vendors attending the fair. There will be many prizes raffled throughout the event. Tickets are given to all who register for the 5K and the costume contest. Raffle tickets can be purchased as well. Winners must be present to win these prizes. Proceeds go to support local no kill animal rescues. Those wanting more information about this event contact purplepoweraws@ or (785) 844-9199.
