    The seventh annual Veterans Week Military Display will take place at the Seniors’ Center. The display will once again include U.S. and foreign military insignias, weapons and equipment from World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. Also on exhibit will be military coins, books, flags, plaques, charts and combat photographs, along with other military memorabilia.

  • 2:00 pm R.E.A.D. with Dogs @ Manhattan Public Library

    Children can sign up to read to a certified therapy dog for 15-20 minutes. The R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program gives kids the opportunity to practice and enjoy reading in a fun environment. Come read to the friendliest dogs around!

  • 10:00 am Hospice for Veterans

    Homecare & Hospice will be hosting free training sessions for any veterans interested in serving other veterans who are dealing with serious illness. The training will prepare them to help hospice clients at home and at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. The first session, Role of the Hospice Veteran Volunteer, will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The second, Veteran Specific Issues at End of Life, will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5. The third, Grief and Bereavement, will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12.   • 3:00 pm Bake sale

    Do you enjoy eating, baking, meeting new people and taking trips? Are you a student at KSU, graduate or undergraduate? Bake club may be the place for you! The Bakery Science Club bakes every Tuesday night and hold a sale every Wednesday afternoon from 3-5 pm. No baking experience required, we have members from a wide array of majors, who come to socialize and eat some cookies while we bake! Come check us out any Tuesday night during the school year in Shellenberger Hall. We start baking around 5 and will be in the lab until the last cookie is bagged (normally 9 or 10 o’clock)!! You’re free to come and go as you please. The club also provides dinner each night. The Bakery lab is room 110 in Shellenberger Hall, which is just east of Waters Hall.     “Beyond Glory,” starring Stephen Lang, will be performed at 7:30 pm Wednesday, November 13, in McCain Auditorium as part of Kansas State University’s McCain Performance Series.

  • 6:30 pm Royal Family KIDS Benefit Banquet and Auction

  • 6:30 pm Benefit for kids

    Manhattan Royal Family KIDS will be having their first benefit banquet and silent auction. Royal Family KIDS is a national network of camps, clubs and mentoring for foster kids ages 7-11. Manhattan will host their 15th camp the summer of 2014. The local group anticipates adding a club and mentoring program soon. There is no charge for foster families to send their kids to camp.   • 11:45 am Seniors meeting

    The Riley County Seniors’ Service Center’s annual meeting will take place Friday. Officers and directors for the 2014 board will be elected and a Thanksgiving dinner will follow.

  • 6:00 pm Dinner & auction

    Flint Hills Christian School will host a live auction. Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and to start bidding on silent auction items. Tickets are $10 if purchased by Nov. 6 and $15 after that date. Ticket price includes admission to the auction plus an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner. Tickets can be purchased through the school office or online through the school website. Free babysitting will be provided at the First Assembly of God church. Pizza supper is available for $2 per child. Proceeds will go toward the general budget to help keep tuition costs low and provide some scholarships or reduced tuition help to qualified students. A portion also goes to support the student activity program.
