  • 2:00 pm R.E.A.D. with Dogs @ Manhattan Public Library

    Children can sign up to read to a certified therapy dog for 15-20 minutes. The R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program gives kids the opportunity to practice and enjoy reading in a fun environment. Come read to the friendliest dogs around!

  • 2:00 pm Vegan cooking class

    The Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Sixth and Laramie streets is hosting a free vegan cooking class from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event is open to the public. Contact 785-313-3315 with any questions.

  • 2:00 pm Fall Fashion Show

    Gamma Lambda ESA, dressbarn and the Seniors Center will sponsor the Fall Fashion Show & Dessert Bar at 2 p.m Sunday. The show will feature fall fashion trends and some homemade desserts. Tickets for the fundraiser are $5.  The show will be at the Seniors Center, 301 N. Fourth St. and proceeds go to support the Center and its services.

    Baum, a resident of North Las Vegas, NV, will be available to sign copies of his book, The Oz Enigma.

    Tate, a resident of Manhattan, KS, will be available to sign copies of her book, Little Mouse, Sister Mouse.

    Little Mouse, Sister Mouse help children relate to Jesus through the eyes of two little mice. The mice are sister and brother that have fun doing special things together, and secretly watching Jesus perform miracles like feeding the thousands with two fish and five loaves of bread. They even sneak in to get a little for themselves!

  • 9:00 am 5K walk to support animal welfare

    Purple Power Animal Welfare Society, a local non-profit animal rescue, is hosting ‘Paws for a Cause’, an event for people and their dogs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. This event starts with a 5K walk/jog/run from the Hy-Vee garden center to Manhattan City Park and back. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration is at 9 a.m. The first 30 participants will get a free event t-shirt. Admission for the walk is $10 per person. We encourage people to bring their dogs for the walk/run. The event includes multiple cake walks. Cake walk tickets are available for $1 each. The cake walks start at 11 a.m. The dog costume contest and fashion show will follow at 1 p.m. Registration for the costume contest is $5. Paws for a Cause will have many pet/people friendly vendors attending the fair. There will be many prizes raffled throughout the event. Tickets are given to all who register for the 5K and the costume contest. Raffle tickets can be purchased as well. Winners must be present to win these prizes.   • 10:00 am Onaga Needle Craft and Hobby Festival

    The Onaga Historical Society will again be hosting the Needle Craft and Hobby Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th at the museum complex in Onaga.

    This is an opportunity to learn cross stitch, embroidery, hand quilting, tatting, knitting, crochet, spinning, and glass expressions sculpture. These folks will be demonstrating these skills and they are willing to teach them to people who want to learn.

    Lunch will be served to those doing the demonstrations in the Victory School house on the museum grounds.The museum complex is located in the southeast corner of Onaga. Look for the Union Pacific caboose.
