Yo-Yo Ma leads 2014-15 McCain schedule

By Bethany Knipp

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, singer LeAnn Rimes, comedian Larry the Cable Guy, blues icon Buddy Guy and radio personality Garrison Keillor are among the acts set to perform next year at McCain Auditorium.

The 2014-15 lineup was announced Sunday. The schedule, which features a total of 30 events, also includes traveling Broadway shows and Irish group The Chieftains.

“I think it’s our most exciting lineup yet,” McCain executive director Todd Holmberg said. “I came up with a list of people I’ve been working on bringing to Manhattan for several years.”

Two of the Broadway shows include “Sister Act” and “Anything Goes.” Actor William Shatner and the Second City comedy club also will stop by.

Holmberg said each season at McCain takes about 18 months to two years to plan. But he said getting Yo-Yo Ma at McCain happened to be seven years in the making.

In addition to performances, Holmberg said there will be “a lot of great educational events for the entire family all around the world.”

He said the new season has brought about a buzz on social media and thinks Manhattan and Kansas State University will feel “a tremendous amount of excitement” about the new season.
