X-Plosion competes in state tourney

The Manhattan Optimist X-Plosion competed in the Kansas USSSA C state this past weekend.

On Friday night, the X-Plosion lost their first game against the Phenix-Howe from Lawrence 3-2.  Suther took the loss in the circle, allowing only three hits, striking out eight and walking three. Suther, Eichem and Silva each had singles in the game.

The X-Plosion next faced the Derby Baseburners on Saturday,  winning 6-2. Eichem, Mitoska, and Nelson each had singles with Suther and Brunkow contributing two singles each and doubles coming from Schnee and Silva. Petty had a single and a triple.

Petty was in the circle for the X-Plosion allowing only two hits, striking out five, walking three with one hit batter bringing her season total to 5-2.

The X-Plosion won their next game against the Wichita Cougars 8-0. Kunkel, Petty, Eichem, Miller, Silva Buss, and Schnee all had singles with Suther and Brunkow getting two singles each. Eichem also has a triple.

Suther pitched her second game of the tournament, allowing only four hits and striking out eight.

The X-Plosion then had a rematch with the Phenix-Howe on Sunday, losing 4-1 to end their weekend of play. Suther and Silva each had singles with Mitoska contributing two singles in the game. Mitoska pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing five hits,striking out one and walking two. Suther pitched in relief, allowing only one hit, striking out two and walking one. Suther is now 3-5 on the season.

The X-Plosion is now 11-13 on the season and will next compete in the Shawnee County Slugfest on June 30-July 1 in Topeka.

Members of the X-Plosion include Demi Kunkel, Grace Suther, Tatum Brunkow, Haley Petty, Joceline Eichem, Olivia Miller, Dani Silva, Alyssa Mitoska, Carley Nelson, Alee Buss and Chloe Schnee.
