A 93-year-old Manhattan woman died Tuesday after she was struck by a car in the parking lot of First Lutheran Church, 930 Poyntz Ave.

According to a report from the Riley County Police Department, Ruby Johnson fell to the ground and was hit by the front tire of a 2010 Cadillac SRX driven by Erica Forbes, 34, Manhattan.

Police said they received the call at 5:20 p.m., and Forbes rendered aid to Johnson while waiting for EMS personnel. Johnson was then taken to Via Christi Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Church officials declined to comment or say whether there were services taking place at the time of the accident. The church’s calendar didn’t list any activities near the time of the accident.

Police do not anticipate that they will make any arrests or issue any citations in connection with the incident.
