COLUMBIA, Missouri — The Kansas State men’s golf team battled rainy conditions on Tuesday to finish in eighth place in the 2013 Columbia Regional Preview at the par-72, 7,221-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Wildcats finished at 24-over 888 as a team and were led by junior Kyle Weldon, who tied for ninth place after firing a 1-under 215.
After recording a 4-under 140 during the first two rounds of play on Monday, Weldon turned in a third-round 3-over 75 to capture the second Top-10 finish of his career.
Playing as an individual, senior Tyler Norris tallied a 6-over 222 to finish in a six-way tie for 22nd. Norris’ third-round 2-over 74 was the lowest score of the day for the Wildcats.
Senior Alex Carney finished the event tied for 38th. Fellow seniors David Klaudt and Daniel Wood tied for 42nd place. Freshman Seth Smith rounded out the Wildcat scoring lineup as he placed 59th.
Playing on its home course, Missouri recorded a 12-under 852 to take home the team title. Tigers golfer Emilio Cuartero finished atop the individual leaderboard, as he carded an 11-under 205, besting second-place finisher Michael Garrettson of South Alabama by five strokes.
The Wildcats will continue their fall slate next Monday and Tuesday at the St. Mary’s Invitational in Monterey, Calif.
