K-State made quick work of the Denver Pioneers to open the Bluejay Invitational on Friday afternoon, getting the sweep. The No. 21 Wildcats tallied the win 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 with an impressive showing from senior middle blocker Alex Muff along with Kaitlynn Pelger and Lilla Porubek.

Muff came out firing up the middle as she posted four kills on five swings in the opening set. She responded with a perfect 4-for-4 in the second before getting her first errors of the match in the third. Muff finished the match with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .500.

Pelger had another all-around match for the Wildcats pounding out eight kills to go with her .429 hitting percentage. She added eight digs, four blocks and two aces on the day to help put the Pioneers away in straight sets. Porubek also contributed eight kills and hit .273. Senior libero Kuulei Kabalis shored up the back row defense with 14 digs.

The Wildcats will return home for a series of matches in Ahearn Field House next week. K-State will take on Missouri State on Wednesday evening to start a busy week. Thursday through Saturday will see Saint Mary’s and Utah State come to Manhattan to play the Wildcats as well as a neutral site match.
