We don’t need head of the RCPD to be elected

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Thank you for Sunday’s editorial regarding SB463, a bill that would make the head of the RCPD an elective office, and your subsequent coverage.

Certainly we need professional leadership in the RCPD. We do not need an elected person who probably would not be qualified and who would be primarily answerable to special interests and campaign supporters.

It is ironic that this measure has been justified by a supposed need for greater transparency when its originators, supporters, and their motivations have been so murky.
