Former Kansas State golfer Aaron Watkins finished in a tie for 15th at the U.S. Open Golf Championship on Sunday.

Watkins finished with a score of 6-over par, just five shots off the winning score of 1-over par.

Watkins shot a consistent 71-72-71-72 to earn $118,969 in a tournament he qualified for just two weeks ago.

The former Wildcat shot a 66 and a 68 at a sectional qualifying tournament in Memphis, Tenn., to secure a spot in the Open.

Watkins was the first former K-State golfer to play in the U.S. Open since Jim Colbert did in 1987.

That year the tournament was also played at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
