On November 5, Jim Waters, president of Waters True Value, and Jerry Lichtenhan, owner of Lichtenhan Ace Hardware in Wamego, signed an agreement for Waters True Value to acquire Lichtenhan Ace Hardware.

Waters True Value will take possession and open for business Dec. 1. The Lichtenhan’s will continue to run the store until Nov. 30.

Lichtenhan Hardware has been in business since 1902 and began in downtown Wamego. Jerry and his wife, Suzanne, have been with the business since 1977.

“I remember going to Waters Hardware in Junction City to shop with my grandfather when I was a little boy”, said Jerry. “It means a lot for us to sell to another family-owned business that who take care of our community.”

Waters True Value is a sixth generation, family-owned, Kansas company founded in Manchester in 1894.

Waters has eight locations in seven Kansas cities, including two in Manhattan.

“The Lichtenhan and Waters families have been friends for three generations,” Waters said. “Jerry and Suzanne are wonderful people and they have done a phenomenal job supporting the city of Wamego and we fully intend to continue that commitment.”
