Water leak gives Bluemont kids a break

By The Mercury

Bluemont Elementary ended its school day around 11 a.m. Tuesday after a water leak built up on the second floor and began seeping down to certain areas in the rest of the building.

District project manager Dean Youngers said the leak came from second floor bathrooms, where sinks and toilets had been removed Monday night as part of the school’s renovation project. He said unbeknown to school officials, when they shut off water for the second floor restrooms they also cut off water service to the basement restroom. When construction officials turned the water back on to the basement restrooms Tuesday, they unknowingly also turned it on in the upstairs bathrooms. The water ran freely in those bathrooms for about 10 to 15 minutes Tuesday morning before it was shut off.
