Wamego’s Plummer competes in MK2K

By The Mercury

Wamego’s Sarah Plummer finished second in the 40-to-49 age division at the Mother K 5 K race held Saturday in Council Grove.

Plummer’s time of 29:54.3, was about 4 minutes off the pace of the top overall women’s time of 25:35.3.

The run/walk event was held to honor the memory of Katie Buchanan Gant, who died in a car crash in Coffey County south of Burlington in June, 2011. Organizers plan to use money raised from sponsorships, entry fees, and donations to fund scholarships for Council Grove High School students.

Over 300 runners and walkers, many pushing strollers and shepherding small children, braved a light drizzle to participate in the family-friendly event, which started and finished at Council Grove High School. Several members of Katie’s CGHS Class of ’98 participated, as did other family and friends from across Kansas.
