By The Mercury

Wamego cross country coach Rick Patton was named the 2011 Class 4A boys’ cross country coach of the year by the Kansas Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association.

It’s the fourth time in his career that Patton has received the honor, being named to the title in 2000, 2003 and 2008. He was the coach of the year for all classes in 1994.

The Red Raiders boys won the league, regional and state titles this season, and finished with five runners in the top 20 to score 54 points in the 4A state meet at Wamego.
