Wamego keeps playoff hopes alive with wins

By The Mercury

In Hoyt, Wamego beat Royal Valley 28-12 in the team’s second district game, giving them the opportunity to reach the playoffs in a winner-take-all scenario next week against Hayden.

Royal Valley (0-8) struck first for a 6-0 lead, but Wamego (7-1) answered quickly, getting a touchdown from Trenton York and another by Trey Cohorst to make it 14-6. Wamego scored its next two TDs through the air on passes from Kyler Alderson to York.

Wamego hosts the Centennial League’s Topeka Hayden (4-4) next week. Hayden’s losses have come to three Class 6A teams early in the year and Holton this week.
