Wait named Academic All-District

By The Mercury

K-State senior Kyle Wait was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team last week for his display of excellence both on the track and in the classroom.

The pole vaulter is the first Wildcat track athlete to earn the honor from Capital One/CoSIDA since Ryann Krais during the 2011-12 academic year.

The Academic All-District Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected and announced later this month.

Majoring in wildlife and outdoor enterprise management, Wait finished the 2013-14 academic year with a 3.68 grade-point-average.

For Wait, the All-District honor adds to an already decorated K-State career that concluded this past week. The Gardner native is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 member and was named USTFCCCA All-Academic in 2012.

Outside of the classroom, Wait won three Big 12 pole vault titles and is a three-time USTFCCCA All-American.

Wait’s senior season saw him earn All-American First Team honors, as well as a Big 12 title indoors. His outdoor season was highlighted by a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships and qualification in the NCAA West Preliminary Round which concluded this past weekend.
