At approximately 12:42 p.m. Monday a Wabaunsee County resident noticed an unfamiliar person driving a neighbor’s 2003 Chevy 3/4-ton truck, which was loaded with several items, on Wabaunsee Road West of Alma.
The individual alerted the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office, whose officers located the pick-up truck a short time later with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The driver had driven the truck into a pasture and fled on foot.
A suspect, Shawn Kyle Morris, 42, of Topeka was arrested at approximately 5 p.m. near the interstate.
He is being held at the Wabaunsee County Jail and is being charged with aggravated burglary, fleeing and attempting to elude, obstruction and attempted theft. This bond was set at $75,000; he will be formally charged at the Wabaunsee County District Court later this week.
A second suspect, Troy Allen Claspill, 31, of Topeka, was arrested at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the old Gas and Shop, located on K-99 and I-70 Junction. He is being held in the Wabaunsee County Jail and is being charged with aggravated burglary, fleeing and attempting to elude, obstruction and attempted theft. His bond is set at 75,000; he will be formally charged at the Wabaunsee County District Court later this week as well.
