W. JOAN OLSON LARDNER

W. Joan Olson Lardner, 83, of Topeka, died Tuesday at Midland Care Hospice House.

The family provided some of the following information.

Joan was born April 4, 1930, in Olsburg. She was the daughter of Victor Smith Olson and Rosa Catherine Lintz Olson. Joan attended St. Mary College in Leavenworth and graduated from St. Francis nurses training as a Registered Nurse in 1950.  Joan worked for Dr. Bedford for over 20 years and then for St. Francis Hospital as a cardiac care nurse. On Nov. 24, 1984, Joan and Charles Francis “Corky” Lardner were united in marriage at Holy Name Church, enjoying more than 26 years together. He preceded her in death in 2011. Joan was a member of Mater Dei Parish and the Holy Name Rosary Circle.

Joan’s many loves and interests included her beloved dogs, Molly Brown, Wiz and Henry; her family and friends; K-State and KU — unless KSU was playing KU; The KC Royals and Chiefs; carrot cake and Swedish meatballs; Holy Name Catholic Church; working for Dr. Bedford; the Wizard of Oz; and Winnie the Pooh and Peanuts Gang.

Survivors include her brother, Victor Olson and Patricia,  of Olsburg; nine nieces and nephews and 14 grand-nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Hoferer; and brother-in-law, Joseph Lardner. Joan was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Merrill Francis Olson and Lyndon Olson; sisters-in-law, Anna Olson and Catherine Newton; and her brother-in-law, James Lardner.

Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road in Topeka. A parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.  followed by a Florence Nightingale ceremony. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mater Dei Holy Name Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
