Officials have released the name of the man shot by a Geary County Sheriff’s deputy early Sunday morning outside of a Junction City club.

Geary County Undersheriff Tony Wolf said Stefon Butler, 25, Junction City, was shot after pulling a firearm in an aggressive manner on deputies who were monitoring the parking lot of Club Eve, 713 S. Washington St.

Wolf said a disturbance involving Butler had broken out outside the club at approximately 2 a.m. and that Butler fled behind the club’s building where he encountered the deputies.

Wolf said a deputy shot Butler after he produced a firearm in an aggressive manner. He said Butler was shot one time before he collapsed.

The Junction City Fire Department transported Butler to Geary County Hospital where he was flown by LifeStar to Stormont Vail in Topeka with very serious injuries, though Wolf said he is now in stable condition.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
