Vehicle burglaries in Pott County

By Katherine Wartell

Two males were detained by Pottawatomie County Sheriff deputies Sunday morning after they were observed breaking into a vehicle in Walnut Grove Trailer Park in St. George.

Deputies took Austin D. Brummett-Brown, 18, Wamego, and a 16-year-old juvenile, also of Wamego, into custody.

During the investigation, Sheriff Greg Riat said deputies discovered that the two allegedly have entered approximately 40 vehicles.

He said they allegedly had been entering unlocked vehicles and taking lighters, cash, iPods, credit cards and other miscellaneous items of value.

Riat said the sheriff’s office is still in the process of locating and contacting all of the victims and said the total dollar loss might exceed $500.

Brummett-Brown is confined to the Pottawatomie County Jail on $100,000 bond, while the 16-year-old juvenile was transported to a juvenile holding facility.

Riat said the sheriff’s office is asking for anyone in the Walnut Grove Trailer Park area to contact Detective Gerald Schmidt at 785-457-3353 if they believe they are victims of this crime.
